A healthy, delicious, frozen treat with intense blueberry flavor. Low in calories and chock-full of antioxidants. JUMP TO RECIPE
There’s nothing earth shattering about frozen yogurt, but I’m still willing to bet that once you try 5-Minute Wild Blueberry Vanilla Frozen Yogurt, it will rock your world, and, quite possibly become your favorite summer-time treat. Why? Because not only is it delicious, and super easy to make, but it’s rich in antioxidants and has the most gorgeous, vibrant color. And if that alone doesn’t make you want to instantly whip up a batch, then consider this: each serving is less than 100 calories with only 8 grams of sugar. Compare that to the same size serving of ice cream, which clocks in at a minimum of 150 calories with 16 grams of sugar or more! And, that’s a conservative estimate – many popular brands of ice cream contain far more calories and sugar than that. (Click here to see the numbers.) If you have a nightly ice cream habit, just switching to 5-Minute Wild Blueberry Vanilla Frozen Yogurt may help you lose anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds over the course of a year. Now THAT’S earth shattering!
Calorie for calorie, berries have more antioxidants than any other fruit, but wild blueberries are particularly high in these cancer-fighting compounds – quite a bit higher in fact, than even the bigger, and more common, cultivated blueberries that are available just about everywhere. The only berries that contain higher levels of antioxidants are goji berries and black raspberries, which are hard to come by. Wild blueberries, on the other hand, are widely available in the frozen section of most mainstream grocery stores so you can enjoy them all year long and reap the powerful nutritional benefits they provide. Wild blueberries have more intense flavor than regular blueberries, with a unique mix of sweet and tart due to a lower water content. They also have 8 times the manganese, 72% more fiber and 32% less sugar than cultivated blueberries. As you can tell, I’m a huge fan of wild blueberries, but I’m an even bigger fan of the 5-Minute Wild Blueberry Vanilla Frozen Yogurt I can make with them!
After you whir up all the ingredients for 5-Minute Wild Blueberry Vanilla Frozen Yogurt, it’s best to let it firm up a bit in the freezer. You can eat it straight out of the food processor if you wish, but the consistency is so soft that it melts quickly, so for best results, transfer the mixture to a container (I love this Tovolo insulated ice cream tub – pictured above) and freeze for at least 2-3 hours before serving. And to make this delicious, icy treat even tastier, top with generous dollops of fresh whipped cream. Beware, 5-Minute Wild Blueberry Vanilla Frozen Yogurt turns your lips and tongue blueish purple, but I think you’ll agree, it’s totally worth it!
